1. About the app and these terms
Bandwidth Meter is a free network-testing utility for Roku devices, published by Fremont Trader (“we,” “us,” or “the publisher”). These terms describe use of the app and our supporting documentation. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy.
By using the app, you agree to these terms to the extent an agreement may lawfully be formed in your jurisdiction. If you do not agree, discontinue use. Nothing here removes mandatory consumer rights or rights granted by applicable open-source licenses.
2. Free app; connection costs
The current app is free to use and does not require an app account, subscription, or in-app purchase. You are responsible for your Roku device, internet connection, and any charges imposed by your internet or mobile-service provider.
Speed tests transfer data and can use a substantial amount of your data allowance. They may temporarily affect other devices or streaming activity on the same connection. Use care on metered, capped, shared, or mobile connections. Press Back to cancel a running test.
3. Understanding test results
Download speed, upload speed, latency, and related results are estimates of the connection between your Roku device and the test services during that test. They are affected by device capabilities, Wi-Fi or Ethernet conditions, other network activity, routing, selected servers, and service availability.
Results are provided for general information. They are not a certification of your internet plan, a guaranteed measure of your connection’s maximum capacity, or a guarantee of streaming quality. A result may differ from a test on another device or from another testing service. The app is not intended for safety-critical, emergency, or other uses that require guaranteed network performance.
4. Responsible use
Use the app only on devices and networks you own or are authorized to use, and comply with applicable law and the rules of your network and service providers.
Do not use the app to intentionally disrupt networks or test services, defeat service restrictions, or generate abusive traffic. These conditions do not limit lawful activity or permissions granted by the app’s open-source license.
5. Third-party services and availability
The app uses independent services, including Cloudflare, IPinfo, Hetzner, Linode/Akamai, and OVHcloud. Cloudflare supplies latency and upload testing regardless of the selected download server. Other presets change the download route.
We do not control those services. Their endpoints, terms, rate limits, or availability may change, and a test may fail or become unavailable. We may update server presets or other app features to maintain the app, but do not promise continuous availability, a particular update schedule, or support for every Roku model or operating-system version.
Roku’s device and platform terms apply separately. Bandwidth Meter is an independent utility and is not sponsored or endorsed by Roku or the testing-service providers. Product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
6. Privacy and saved results
The Privacy Policy explains automatic network-information lookups, test-service requests, local history, and website hosting. Opening the app initiates an IP-information lookup even before a speed test begins.
Recent test results are stored locally on your Roku device, with a maximum of 20 completed records. You can delete them using History → Clear history. We do not provide a cloud backup or recovery service for that history. Do not rely on the app as your sole archive of important measurements.
7. Software licenses
Bandwidth Meter is distributed with an MIT License notice. Its license grants rights to use, copy, modify, distribute, and otherwise deal with the software, subject to its stated conditions, including preservation of the copyright and permission notice. Third-party components, fonts, and other materials may have their own applicable notices.
Nothing in these terms is intended to reduce permissions granted by those licenses. If a term here conflicts with an applicable open-source license, that license governs the relevant licensed material. Trademark rights are separate from software-license permissions.
8. Warranties and liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the app and documentation are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted operation.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the publisher is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from use of or inability to use the app, including loss of data, loss of profits, or network-service interruption.
These exclusions apply only where lawful. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits a statutory warranty, remedy, or consumer right that applies to you.
9. Changes and discontinuing use
We may update these terms as the app or its supporting services change. We will post the revised terms with an updated effective date and provide any additional notice required by law. Changes apply prospectively, subject to applicable law.
You may stop using the app at any time. If you want to remove saved test results, use the app’s Clear history control before discontinuing use. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent allowed by law.
10. Support and contact
For questions about the app or these terms, contact Fremont Trader through the Bandwidth Meter support tracker on GitHub. A GitHub account is required to submit a request. Support requests are public: do not include passwords, IP addresses, personal information, or unredacted private logs. We do not guarantee a particular response time.
